As of Sept. 23, parking meters in the city’s downtown core will be replaced with accessible pay stations in central locations.
The 27 pay stations will be clearly marked with new signs and will include the parking zone number.
Parking patrons will simply input their licence plate and zone number into the pay machine or HotSpot app to register their vehicle as paid.
The new pay stations will allow parking patrons to use the most up-to-date payment methods in addition to using coins. The pay stations accept cash, credit, debit or tap. Parking patrons can also continue to pay for parking through the HotSpot
Parking app on their mobile device.
There will be a transition period while meters are being switched to pay stations. During that time, parking patrons are asked to pay at the meter where available. If a meter has already been removed, please find the nearest pay station for payment with your licence plate number.
On-street parking areas will be indicated with a number of signs, which will include the zone number, how to pay and maximum allowed time.
The downtown will be divided into two zones; one zone for Elm Street on-street parking and one zone for all other downtown on-street parking. As long as there is still time left in a parking session, a vehicle can be moved to another parking spot within the same zone.
Pay stations within municipal parking lots will not change. Patrons will still be required to display a ticket in the windshield of their vehicle showing proof of payment unless using the HotSpot Parking app.
This update is part of several initiatives to make parking more convenient for visitors to the downtown core. The new pay stations accept more payment methods than ever before and decrease the need to navigate around snow banks during the winter months. This phase follows the launch of the HotSpot Parking app in June of this year. Since its launch, more than 2,819 parkers have registered approximately 10,400 parking sessions with HotSpot.
