April is National Oral Health Month, and Dental students at Cambrian
College are doing their part to make sure people have healthy teeth, especially
children and youth.
Students in the Dental Assisting and Dental Hygiene programs are taking part in two
initiatives next month to promote oral health.
Throughout April, students will be working in the college’s community Dental Clinic,
offering free dental services for children, 18 years old and under. Services provided
by Dental Hygiene and Dental Assisting students, under the supervision of licensed
dentists and registered dental hygienists, include:
Dental examinations
Teeth cleaning
Fluoride treatments
X-rays
Oral hygiene instruction
Athletic mouth guards
Pit and fissure sealants
Nutritional counselling
“Every year, we see hundreds of people in our community, particularly children and
youth, and provide them with safe, professional dental care, “says Lisa Kelly, a
Professor and Clinical Coordinator in Cambrian’s Dental Health programs. “Our
clients get first-rate care, and our students get to practice what they learn in a true
clinical setting. It also promotes oral health in our community.”
The Dental Clinic is located at Cambrian’s main campus on Barrydowne Road.
