Residents are invited to provide their thoughts on whether or not backyard hens should be permitted in residential zones of Greater Sudbury.
In order to permit backyard chickens in residential zones, changes would be required for two existing bylaws: the Zoning Bylaw, 2010-100Z and the Animal Care and Control Bylaw, 2017-22.
These two bylaws currently allow residents to own chickens on any property that is larger than one hectare, and is within a zone where Agricultural Uses are permitted.
A survey related to backyard hens and the existing zoning is available until November 15 at https://overtoyou.greatersudbury.ca/backyard-chickens.

In addition, polling is being conducted by Oracle Poll related to a number of municipal issues, including the permitting of backyard hens.
Feedback received through all channels will be presented as part of a report to City Council on December 11, 2018.
