Eatery popular with golfers and gourmets

Open daily from 11 am from Easter to Thanksgiving

Mary and Rod Jouppi have developed a lovely piece of property with beautiful vistas into a nine-hole executive golf course.

After playing a round of golf at the Sixth Avenue Golf Course, players look forward to coming into the Eatery for a drink or for a bountiful feast from the kitchen. Armchair athletes will also enjoy a relaxing lunch or dinner. No one walks away hungry after ordering a heaping helping dish full of food.

The dining area is quite large with various sized tables overlooking the golf course, which is part of a bird sanctuary. Staff from local businesses often have mini meetings in this room because of the view, the wide-open space and, of course, the home cooking.

The decor is simple and clean: blue chairs and wood laminate tables with many plants colouring the room. Mary has added some whimsical decorating touches. One wall is all windows and this allows customers from the restaurant to obtain a bird’s eye view of the fairways and players gearing up for the first swing with their heads down in perfect follow-through position, well, at least for the most part.

The menu is not fancy, but the food is delicious and served in generous quantities.

The Greek chicken begins with a Caesar, Greek or garden salad. The main course is two chicken breasts covered in sweet, fresh yellow and red peppers, drizzled with feta cheese. Zucchini and slices of sweet red onion complement the entrée along with choice of potato. Be forewarned, these are homemade fries, so the taste is superb.

If perhaps one wants to go a little lighter, the chicken wrap is an excellent choice with a mammoth flat bread cut into two pieces filled with fresh vegetables, cheese and chicken. Each is loaded with peppers, onions, lettuce and a thick layer of cheddar cheese with tender slices of white chicken breast. All of this is smothered in a mayonnaise sauce and comes with choice of salad.

Both dishes have generous portions, so bring your appetite!

The employees at the Eatery are for the most part young locals, very eager to display their courtesies.

Our server came back to the table twice to ensure she had our order details correct, and a young man outside was only too happy to open the door for golfers with bags in tow.

Even if one is not a golfer, it is worth the drive to Lively for a meal. The chance to sit back and watch a game of strategy and patience unfold before one’s eyes can be quite entertaining.

The Eatery’s simplicity provides the fundamental things in life: a relaxing place to enjoy friends and foods with great spirits.

The Eatery is open from Easter to Thanksgiving, and for special events year round.
