Cuba requires tourists to have health insurance

Spring 2010 |

Travellers visiting Cuba must present proof of health insurance to cover medical care fees that may be incurred during their trip.

The Government of Cuba has established a new entry requirement that is effective May 1, 2010 .

Travellers visiting Cuba must present proof of health insurance to cover medical care fees that may be incurred during their trip. This insurance must be issued by a Cuban insurance entity or by a foreign insurance company recognized by Cuba.

To date, the Cuban government has not released any additional information regarding how international insurance providers will be  recognized under these new regulations, nor have they indicated the cost of purchasing  insurance from Cuban companies.

In the meantime, Canadian travellers may continue to travel to Cuba, providing their return flight is prior to May 1, 2010.
