The City of Greater Sudbury has announced that it has received federal funding to develop a new vision, plan, and action strategy to help revitalize the downtown core.
“Our organization is thrilled that the heart of our city is being recognized as a major source of economic wealth for our entire city. The spinoff benefits will be there for all citizens of Greater Sudbury to enjoy,” said Susan Thompson, Managing Director for DVDC.
As it stands, more than 15 years have passed since the last comprehensive investment strategy. Once complete, the next plan is expected to serve as a blueprint to help guide decisions and changes in the downtown area for the next decade.
“With so many visionary ideas being brought forth to improve the downtown core, we’re excited to see a document on the horizon that will help guide the entire process. With respect to downtown revitalization and positioning the downtown for future growth, it is important that we get it right and we hope this investment strategy will ensure that happens,” Thompson said.
Issues to be addressed through the strategy include competitively positioning the downtown for future growth, establishing viable and unique land use themes and setting the context for future projects through urban and landscape design, to name a few.
