The Elizabeth Fry Chapter IODE will host their annual "Tour of Homes" on Wednesday, Sept. 15 from 1 to 8 pm. There will be five very different homes featured this year. Ken Hayes, an architect, and his brother Brad, owner of Comics North have redesigned their traditional bungalow with a better use of space in mind, keeping it functional, unusual, practical and minimalist. Ken has purchased on e-bay furniture by famous Italian designers from the 1960's, 1970's and 1980's giving the home a unique look. Amber Salach, an intern architect, and Matthew Schultze, a carpenter, have completely gutted their two-story home that was built in 1927. They have used an open concept style of decorating employing unique materials such as lyptus wood for baseboards, porcelain tiles for countertops, walls, and flooring all in different textures and colours and cocobolo wood for the headboard of their bed. Being young, creative and innovative they strove to reuse, recycle and reclaim what they could from the original house but used in a different format. The result is an attractive, modern, interesting and inviting home. Sherry & Mike Brouzes live on Ramsey Lake, with a manicured landscaped exterior, complete with a hot tub, a gazebo and a "million dollar" view. Inside, the home is perfect for entertaining with its open concept design and inviting conversational areas. For more information, phone Mary at 524-0606 or email Mary Bess at mbguy80@hotmail.com.
Andrea and Todd Irwin have converted an 1893 log home, formerly known by many as the Whitson Creek Museum and Art Gallery, into their home. They love to collect antiques and have many on display. Their children's rooms are unique and a source of many decorating ideas.
The Becker home has a blue Cape Cod exterior and is decorated to the nine's. It has a fox hunt theme in the living and dining areas. Eila has painted the kitchen cupboards blue accented with wood countertops and Delft tiles are imbedded in the white backsplash. Toile de jouey wallpaper with matching bedspread defines the master bedroom. Eila Becker's advice can be found in Canadian Homes and Cottages magazine in "Ask the Expert".
Tickets will be on sale in August for $20 from A Touch of Class, Forget-Me-Not Flowers, Barrydowne Paint and Wallpaper, Rosery Florist, Flower Towne, Lougheed Flowers, El Mercado in Chelmsford and Gallery & Brew in Hanmer. Proceeds from the tour will go towards local charities.
