Fred Eaglesmith will perform in Sudbury Aug. 19 at the Beef N Bird on Lorne St. Thirty solid touring years and 18 gifted albums later, this Juno Award-winning musician treats fans to a performance-packed summer with over 45 Canadian concert dates. The southern Ontario native plays more than 200 shows worldwide each year, delivering a trademark style that draws from folk, country, rock, gospel, old-time music, bluegrass and spoken word. Eaglesmith penned a No. 1 bluegrass hit on the U.S. charts; the only Canadian to ever achieve that honour. His critically-acclaimed album Tinderbox (2008) climbed to the U.S. Top 10, while earning a Juno nomination for Best Roots & Traditional Album. Accolades include a Juno win plus additional nods, a Canadian Independent Music Award and a spot on the Polaris Music Prize short list. Notable songwriters have covered Eaglesmith's tunes, such as Toby Keith and Cowboy Junkies, as well as bluegrass stars James King and Ralph Stanley II. The contemporary-roots musician also wrote Alan Jackson's new release Freight Train and country-phenomenon Miranda Lambert's Time to Get a Gun.
