Soothing aromas waft through the air as serene music resounds quietly in the background. While everybody else is entering a world of utter relaxation, Michelle Briand is hard at work, offering her clients healing and rejuvenation.

Briand opened the doors of her new business, Esscentials Aromatherapy, Aug. 1, offering Greater Sudbury residents an eclectic variety of holistic services that promote mental, physical, emotional and spiritual health, including aromatherapy massage, champissage, ear candling and Swedish massage. However, the holistic practitioner isn’t confined to her office, she also makes office calls.

“A lot of people are stressed in the workplace,” she said. “I’ve developed a series of techniques that can be performed in the office space and still maintain a professional environment. Massage helps people relax and refocus to boost productivity and energy.”

She has dubbed these in-office massages Offissages.

Esscentials promotes the maintenance of full-body health as the best preventative measure a person can take to avoid illness, stress and injury, the business press release states.

“My goal is to make the naturopathic lifestyle as accessible as possible,” Briand said.

The most popular service, champissage, also called Indian head massage, focuses on the hair, scalp, neck, upper back, shoulders and arms. It is versatile and requires no special equipment, making it a simple service to offer in the office environment.

The benefits of champissage include relief from muscle pain and tension, mental stimulation to promote clearer thinking and memory improvement, and increased blood supply to the scalp, promoting healthy hair growth, among others.

Briand’s healing journey began 10 years ago. She studied a number of different techniques, many of what are now available through her business.

“I love what I do,” she said. “Working with people through the sense of touch helps me become more myself, it’s who I am. When I give, I receive and that helps me stay healthy.”
She has also started developing her own essential oil product blends, including those specific to  different ailments or stresses, products for kids, her own harmony line and gift packages, all of which are available in her office.
