An ancient idea with a bright future

Ceramic tile looks beautiful and it's tough

Winter 2008 |

Ceramic tile has been made for more than 4,000 years and has been found in the ancient ruins of Pompei. It can easily withstand abuse by a busy modern family.

Pillar Ceramics opened its doors in June and specializes in ceramic, marble, and porcelain tile, as well decorative solutions such as natural stone, limestone, glass, travertine and mosaics.

Mixing tile materials such as glass, ceramic, metal or stone can create a one-of-a kind kitchen backsplash or rock panel wall scape.

“My product line is unique to Sudbury,” says owner Christian Romero Herz.

Romero Herz is originally from Costa Rica. He learned his trade in Florida where ceramic tile has been popular for many years. He met  his future wife when she was on holiday and followed her home to Sudbury in 2002.

He is looking forward to introducing Sudbury clients to some new fashion-forward products and their  many applications in the home.

Well-known Sudbury interior decorator Terry Vendetti is the showroom manager.

When Romero Herz first thought about opening a showroom in Sudbury, he knew people here would like to be able to purchase the products they see in Canada’s decorating magazines and featured on popular HGTV renovation programs.

Pillar Ceramics staff can show homeowners the ancient idea of ceramics in a new light. Tiles can be  used in unconventional ways in areas such as family rooms, dining rooms, media rooms, as well as in conventional areas such as kitchens, bathrooms and entrances.

Pillar Ceramics even sells a tile that looks like hardwood but acts like a ceramic.

Pillar Ceramics is located at 2037 Long Lake Rd. behind Shoppers’ Drug Mart.
