According to Wikepedia: "The origin of the (chiefly British) term loo is unknown. According to the OED, the etymology is obscure, but it might derive from the word Waterloo. The first recorded entry is in fact from James Joyce in Ulysses (1922): "O yes, mon loup. How much cost? Waterloo. Watercloset".
This award is a new extension of the highly successful America's Best Restroom Contest, launched by Cintas to draw attention to the importance of clean, appealing restrooms in public places.
;There is no question that restroom hygiene plays a big role in determining customer satisfaction and repeat business," said Cintas Canada Marketing Manager Leslie Molin. "When we learned how successful our American colleagues were in sharing this message and how much fun the public was having nominating and voting on these extravagant restrooms, we knew it was time to show off our own great facilities here in Canada."
Up to 10 finalists will be announced in July, at which time the internet public will be asked to cast its votes. The winner will be announced in September and receive the coveted CBR plaque of recognition from Cintas during a formal ceremony and media event.
The contest is open to any non-residential restroom that is free of charge and open to employees, visitors or the general public. Nominators are not required to have a professional relationship with the business or staff that manages the facility, but personal experience is encouraged.
