Sudbury's community theatre group, Theatre Cambrian, will present Miss Saigon (May 12-28, 2011) during its ambitious 26th season
Mark Mannisto, executive director, will direct the musicial set during the Vietnam War. This modern-day Madame Butterfly premiered in London in 1989, and is a much-loved musical.
Theatre Cambrian’s 2010-2011 season will open this September with the first of four dinner theatre productions. On Sept.10, 11, 16, 17, 18, artistic director Jamie J. Bourget will direct Eat Your Heart Out, a comedy by Nick Hall about an out of work actor working as a waiter.
The American farce, Sex Please We’re Sixty by Michael and Susan Parker, will be directed in November by Dale Pepin. He also directs the spring dinner theatre Nanna’s Naughty Knickers, running April 8, 9, 14, 15, 16.
Mannisto will direct the Doug Stone comedy, Sealed for Freshness in July 2011. This play is set in 1968 during the heyday of Tupperware parties.
Theatre Cambrian has plans for its second annual dinner theatre festival in January. Featured productions are Norm Foster's The Long Weekend, the female version of Neil Simon'sThe Odd Couple, and the hilarious Confessions of a Dirty Blonde.
In addition to Miss Saigon, Theatre Cambrian will produce two other musicals beginning with Billboard’s Best, a tribute to some of Billboard magazine's music chart’s top performers such as Shania Twain, Garth Brooks, The Beach Boys, Tina Turner and Michael Jackson. Billboard’s Best will run Sept. 28-Oct 2 (2010).
The musical based on the classic MGM film, Singin’ in the Rain will be directed by Bourget next February.
Theatre Cambrian's Kids’ Curtain will present the musical Annie Dec. 9-18.
Of course, the 2009-2010 season isn't over yet. All Shook Up, featuring the songs made famous by Elvis, will run from June 10 to 26. Tickets are on sale now by phoning 524-7317
