“We hope it's going to be a success, especially this year with the francophone element,” said artistic director Mark Mannisto “We're going to be serving a portion of the community we haven't yet.” Richard Pulsifer will direct Theatre Cambrian’s first French production, Michel Tremblay’s comedy Le Spot Idéal in August 2012. Dale Pepin, president of the community theatre's board, explained francophone patrons have always been supportive. “We felt it was time for us as a community theatre to become involved in the francophone element. We also want to present quality theatre, and I think in this year's line-up we have that quality theatre,”said Pepin. The Kids' Curtain company will produce Footloose, a musical based on the 1984 movie. The show is scheduled for December 2011. “Music is key this season. Everyone my generation or older had Footloose on vinyl or cassette,” explained Mannisto. “The youth in the company are really getting a kick out of being introduced to these areas of music.” This year's mainstage production will include a second The Best of Billboard show, which will feature new songs and artists. “We introduced the Best of Billboard last fall and we had no idea how it was going to go,” said Mannisto. “It ended up being extremely popular and brought out people who had never been to the theatre before.” Theatre Cambrian will produce Happy Days, a rock 'n' roll musical based on the hit television series in May. Theatre Cambrian will offering four dinner-theatre productions, along with the the dinner-theatre festival that will take place in January. Theatre Cambrian 2011/12 productions include The Gin Game; Neil Simon's Jake’s Women; the comedy, Whose Wives Are They Anyway; and Steel Magnolias. Dinner theatre festival offerings include the comedies The Owl and the Pussycat, Private Lives, and The Melville Boys. For more information, phone 705-524-7317 or visit www.theatrecambrian.ca.
