AGS will hold an Ivan Wheale retrospective Jan. 9 - Feb. 28.
Winter 2010 |
There is a lot more to see and do in the upcoming months so the art gallery is a great place to visit for Sudbury and area residents. From Jan. 9 until Feb. 28, enjoy the paintings of the internationally recognized and local artist Ivan Wheale. His retrospective exhibition of a 50-year career will include works, never on public display, loaned from several commercial and public galleries, as well as private and corporate collections in Canada and the USA. Wheale was born in Sunderland, England, in 1934. Self-taught, he became interested in painting as a teenager. Wheale came to Canada in 1957 settling in Sudbury. Here he began to exhibit and has staged more than 85 solo and group exhibitions. He currently lives and works on Manitoulin Island. The Art Gallery of Sudbury is located at 251 John St. and open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 to 5 pm, and Sunday noon to 5 pm. Visit online at www.artsudbury.org or phone 675-4871.
He has an honorary degree from Laurentian University, and has been honoured with the Rotary International Paul Harris Award.
