A group of hard-working Sudbury women, members of LEAF, has contributed more than $245,000 to further equality for women.

This year the Sudbury LEAF Person's Day Breakfast turns 20. Since the first breakfast in 1990, Sudbury has contributed more than $245,000 to the Women's Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF).

The organization has undertaken court cases that deal with equality in the lives of Canadian women and girls. Many hours of volunteer work has been provided by both lawyers and lay people to bring these cases to fruition, and to informthe public of the issues involved.

A few years ago LEAF was given leave to intervene in a procedure in Sudbury, the Coroner's inquest into Kimberley Roger's case.

LEAF has made a difference in Sudbury by promoting an atmosphere in which many women have felt empowered to stretch up and attain leaders' positions in health care, education and politics.

More than 9,000 people have attended the Sudbury LEAF Person's Day Breakfast since 1990.

Senator Nancy Ruth (Jackman), one of the founders of LEAF, will speak at the 20th LEAF Person's Day Breakfast which will be held Friday, Oct. 23 at Laurentian University's Great Hall at 7 am.

Tickets are $30 and tables of eight are $240. Tickets are available at the Apollo Restaurant, Black Cat, Helvi’s Flower House, Paris Natural Foods, the Cambrian College and university bookstores.
