Young Sudbury Singers perform holiday concerts

 

The Young Sudbury Singers are appearing five times in the community over the next two weeks – don’t miss your chance to hear these talented young singers this holiday season. The choir is also selling Christmas cards of their own design – packages of six cards and envelopes are available for $10, with all proceeds going to support the choir’s activities.

Friday, December 7 – 5 p.m.Young Sudbury Singers will lead the singing of Christmas carols and perform other seasonal repertoire during the City of Greater Sudbury’s tree-lighting festivities in Tom Davies Square. Hot chocolate and cider will be available for all who attend – this event is sure to get everyone into the holiday spirit.

Friday, December 7 – 6:30 p.m. – The choir will continue their caroling at the Sudbury Theatre Centre, as audience members arrive for the opening night performance of Plaid Tidings, a special holiday edition of Forever Plaid, on stage at STC until December 22.

Sunday, December 9 – 2 p.m.Young Sudbury Singers will join with the Jubilee Folk Ensemble and Jubilation Singers to present Christmas Around the World at the ParkSide Centre, 140 Durham St. in downtown Sudbury. This concert is a fundraiser for the ParkSide Centre. Tickets are $10 for all ages and $8 for members – children 13 and under will be admitted free.

Friday, December 14 – 6 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.Young Sudbury Singers will be one of several community groups performing live on CBC Radio during CBC Morning North’s seasonal remote event Sounds of the Season, to be held on the second floor at St. Andrew’s Place, 111 Larch St. in downtown Sudbury. Admission is free – donations to the Sudbury Food Bank are encouraged. Holiday refreshments will be served.

Sunday, December 16 – 2:30 p.m. – The Sudbury Chamber Singers and Young Sudbury Singers will come together to present A Child’s Christmas, a concert of well-loved seasonal favourites. Guest artist Dick Van Raadshooven will perform works for solo cello, and accompany the choirs on several selections.

The concert will be held at St. Andrew’s Place, 111 Larch St. in downtown Sudbury. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students & seniors – children age 6 and under are admitted free. YOUNG SUDBURY SINGERS is a Sudbury-based charitable organization whose mandate is to provide a high-quality choral music education to children and youth ages 6-17.

The choir often performs in conjunction with other local musical ensembles, and regularly shares their joy of singing at a variety of community events.
