Fierté Sudbury Pride is excited to launch its most dynamic Pride Festival yet. This year the
organization has more than 25 community partners and has planned over 30 events in
23 venues throughout the week.
The flag-raising ceremony will take place at James Jerome Sports Complex on Monday July 9 at 11 am, the official opening of Pride Week in Sudbury. Other events include Family Day in the Park, which will be held at Memorial Park July 14 starting at noon. Family Day in the Park will lead into the annual Pride
March, which will begin in the park at 2 pm and make its way through downtown Sudbury.
This year the parade will include messaging from Fierté Sudbury Pride, which will be advocating for the continuation of the current sexual education curriculum as well as other relevant queer issues from various community members.
New to the program this year is the Pride Vigil, which will be held July 10 at
Memorial Park at 6 pm. The vigil will welcome survivors and will hold space for the
memories of those who have passed from HIV, suicide and violence. This event will
unveil an interactive community art installation that will collectively house artwork from
individuals who have experienced HIV, suicide or violence in their lives.
The annual Pride Prom, which is a welcoming space for youth to experience a safe and stigma-free prom, will be held July 13 at the Sudbury Theatre Centre, starting at 7 pm. The event is for youth 18 years and under and is a
completely free event thanks in part to the Greater Sudbury Police Services’ Chief’s Youth Initiative Fund.
Building on the overwhelming success of last year’s Big Gay Cabaret, Pride is excited to
host it’s only in-festival fundraising event July 12 at The Sudbury Theatre Centre starting at 7 pm. Tickets are available at The STC, La Fromagerie, Good Luck General Store and Cosmic Dave’s Vinyl Emporium, for $20.
Also new to the program is the Pride discussion panel which will host LGBTQ2SA+
academic speakers. This event will be held at the Fromagerie
on July 15 at 1 pm, and is free to attend.
