The trails were in great shape at the Naughton Trail Centre as the Northern Cancer Foundation, Walden Mountain Bike Club and Ionic Engineering gathered to kick off promotion for the Ionic Mountain Bike Tour 2018.
The Ionic Mountain Bike Tour 2018 is being held on Sunday, July 22 at the Naughton Trail Centre. There are seven different races available: a youth 350m race (for children 9 and under), a youth 700m race (for chidren 12 and under), a 5km recreational race, a 10km recreational race, a 20km recreational race, a 20km advanced race and a 4x5km team/corporate relay race. Registration fees are $10/youth ($15 on race day), $25/adult ($30 on race day) and $60/family ($75 on race day). Helmets are mandatory for all participants.
This will be the seventh year for the Mountain Bike Tour. Typically, the winner of the tour chooses where the raised funds will be supporting, however, this year the race committee decided that all funds should be donated to the Northern Cancer Foundation for equipment that can help bladder cancer patients at the Northeast Cancer Centre.
“Bladder Cancer is the fifth most common cancer in Canada, and as a bladder cancer patient myself, I know that we can do more to support the fight against the disease,” says Ryan Lougheed, Ionic Mountain Bike Tour Committee Member, “having our group decide for this race to support the purchase of bladder cancer equipment locally means a lot to me.”
“As a local engineering firm, it makes a lot of sense for us to support the Mountain Bike Tour from an activity standpoint as well as a local fundraising standpoint,” says Andre Dumais, General Manager of Ionic Engineering. Ionic is the presenting sponsor of the event. “Our community is a great one and when local groups get together, great things happen. This Mountain Bike Tour is a great thing.”
It’s exciting to see that our focus on activity and physcial wellness is resonating with local groups like the Walden Mountain Bike Club and Ionic Engineering,” says Tannys Laughren, Executive Director of the Northeast Cancer Centre, “we’re honoured to be the charity of choice for this event in 2018 and to raise awareness locally for bladder cancer.”
