On Sunday, Sept.  6, fill your evening with adventure with Geocaching by the Light of the Moon.

Stars, and critters, and caches, oh my! Come adventure by the light of the moon and a billion twinkling stars with Gordon’s Park’s Night Owl Weekend, this Labour Day Long Weekend, on stunning Manitoulin Island. Enjoy three nights of camping, and great events like an Astronomy NightGuided Night Hike, and Geocaching by the Light of the Moon!

On Friday, September 4, shrug off the stress of the back to school season and toast a last hurrah of the summer with a Wine and Cheese Welcome Campfire! Meet your fellow night owls and enjoy a chance to sit back and relax into camp life for the weekend. Then, look up and leave the earth’s gravity behind with an amazing Astronomy Night. Learn the stories of the stars as you familiarize yourself with all the wonders of the sky at night and find out how to navigate through the universe with a sky map. Step out into the darkness and practice star hopping from constellation to constellation guided by a high-powered laser that reaches right up into the night, and peer through the park’s 8” Dobsonian telescope at marvelous objects in space.

Night owls need to rest some time, so let yourself sleep in, and then enjoy your morning however you like! Take your shot at our 18 hole mini putt course, or at our archery lane, or venture out onto the island for some sightseeing with Rita’s Picks, a complimentary map that marks out the best tourist attractions around the island.

Come evening on Saturday, September 5, share a favorite dish in a delicious potluck supper and commemorate the weekend with a group photo. Once the sun sinks below the horizon, join one of the park interpreters on a Guided Night Hikethrough the trails. Learn all about the bright eyed creatures that scurry under cover of darkness, from owls to skunks, deer to flying squirrels, hawks, coyotes, fireflies and more! Sharpen your hearing by listening through a set of parabolic ears and find out just how much is really going on in that ‘silent’ night.

On Sunday, September 6, fill your evening with adventure with Geocaching by the Light of the Moon! Guided by a hand-held GPS and reflective tacks in the trees, find your way to the right coordinates to search for 10 spectacular night caches and discover the hidden treasures. Whether you are an experienced geocacher or someone just shrugging off their Muggle status (a non-geoacacher), this evening treasure hunt promises to be a fantastic experience. When all the caches have been found, kick up your feet and enjoy a Wind Up Social Campfire to send off the summer in style with one last evening before the return to reality.

If traditional camping isn’t quite your style, check out the alternate accommodations, like Tipi Tenting, Camping Cabins, the Stargazing Cabin or the Bed and Breakfast for a little extra comfort. Other facilities on site include 18-hole mini putt, a solar-heated swimming pool, hiking trails and a nature interpretive centre! Call 705-859-2470 to register or make a reservation for an accommodation!
