Grade 8 students from Sudbury’s École catholique Félix-Ricard were the big winners of the Greater Sudbury Fast Flowing Water Video & Poster Contest. Motivated by their desire to inform both youth and the general public about the dangers of fast flowing water, these students earned rave reviews for the creation of dynamic ads that can make a difference in our community. The special honours and prizes were presented June 13 at Tom Davies Square.
During the award ceremony, four Félix-Ricard students received first place distinctions. Dominique Coutu was awarded an iPad for her winning poster, which will be displayed on a Kingsway billboard for one month. Riana McNeil, Cassandra Ouellette and Paige Mihelchic claimed first prize in the video contest, and also won an iPad. Their video will be shown this fall during a Cinéfest Sudbury gala.
Félix-Ricard teachers have actively supported the Greater Sudbury Fast Flowing Water Contest for a number of years. The contest is a great way of making students aware of the inherent danger of fast flowing water. The staff recognizes the importance of this initiative for Greater Sudbury, which has so many bodies of water within its city limits.
