Style notes for spring

Sudbury Living Magazine March 1, 2012 Uncategorized No Comments on Style notes for spring

Sudbury’s own Intercoiffure stylist Frank Marasco’s 2012 winter and spring collection is featured in international hair and make-up magazine, Beauty Launchpad.

Long regarded as a style-watch magazine for hairdressers and make-up artists around the world, Marasco’s collection is featured at www.beautylaunchpad.com.

“The seasonal styling collections he produces illustrate the latest trends and demonstrate how progressive cuts can be worn by the everyday client. Our readers and website visitors love to see versatile hairstyles, and this is where Marasco excels,” says Beauty Launchpad executive editor Amy Dodds.

“These ‘Sudbury’ looks will look right at home in New York or Milan,” says Marasco.

Tangerine may be the colour of the year, but chartreuse, a colour halfway between yellow and green, was popular on fashion runways in Paris and New York. Chartreuse doesn’t complement all skin tones. Add this eye-catching colour to your wardrobe with accessories such as belts, purses or shoes.

Give your skinny jeans a rest. Seventies-inspired flared jeans (aka bell-bottoms) are getting second looks on the streets in the fashion capitals of the world. It used to impossible for women of a certain age and size to find attractive well-fitting jeans. Manufacturers have finally taken note of who wears the jeans in the family. Look for jeans with premium stretch denim. A great pair of jeans is worth the investment.

This spring the ballerina slipper gets a lift. Audrey Hepburn made kitty heels popular in the 1950s. The short (1.5 inch) heels are also known as “trainer heels.” Kitties are feminine and comfortable but heels can get caught in sidewalk cracks. So be careful.

Speaking of Hepburn, Katharine Hepburn’s influence reigns. Tailored blazers, fitted cardigans and high-waisted wide legged pants flatter tall and thin figures. For more on Kate’s fashion sense, watch the movie The Philadelphia Story (1940). High platform shoes give this look balance and keep you from tripping over those wide-bottomed pants.

The big bag is still a favourite with roomy totes and outsize frame bags. Many handbags showed chain handles.

If you can only add one thing to your wardrobe this spring, invest in a colourful tunic to wear over jeans and leggings. A tunic is a stylish way to hide a tummy. And if you’ve got the legs, it can be worn as a dress.
