The owners of a spacious tri-level New Sudbury home built in the 1980s, invested in major renovations when they moved in several years ago. But the family room with its cosy furniture and pastal colours was beginning to look dated and dreary. Marissa Buttazzoni of Surroundings Interior Design provided some smart ideas for this stunning budget-minded top-to-bottom room makeover.
The teenagers use the finished “rec room” in basement when they have friends over. The owners wanted to transform the garden-level family room into a grown-up space, a stylish and contemporary den that complements the decor of the formal second-floor living room/dining area.
The main walls of the home’s foyer and family room are painted Ashley grey (Benjamin Moore). Buttazzoni choice blue echo (Benjamin Moore) for the accent walls to complement the couple’s favourite artwork. The original brick fireplace is completely disquised by this elegant custom-made facade designed by the owner.
Let it shine
Carpeting in the family room was replaced with easy-to-maintain hardwood flooring. Ceramic tile was installed in the foyer, hallway, and guest bathroom.
